Aires | Wooden Sailing Kayak

Regular price $9,500.00 Sale

Aires, this beautiful wooden 17-foot double-cockpit sailing kayak, was designed and built by Walter Simmons of Ducktrap Boatworks in Lincolnville, Maine.

This lovely vessel features:
- Lapstrake construction, cedar on ash, and is copper-rivet fastened
- Strip-planked mahogany decking with bronze screw fasteners
- Main mast rigging designed by Henry Ruston, with a mizzen mast and jib aft
- A notably unique Radix centerboard of bronze, that nests neatly in the low-profile trunk when raised

The bronze fittings are custom-fashioned by the builder, as are the two spruce paddles that may be disassembled for stowage.

Included with the boat is a Load-Rite trailer, also in excellent condition.

Proceeds from the sale of this vessel support both Maine Maritime Museum and the Randolph Foundation of New Hampshire.

Price: $9,500 or best offer. Please direct questions about the vessel, including where to pick up, to Rebecca Roche, Chief Advancement Officer, at roche@maritimeme.org or 207-443-1316 x327
