Maine Maritime Museum's burgee. A burgee is a flag, usually small and swallow-tailed, that is often used today as a symbol of a sailing organization. The history of burgees began in the 19th century when ship owners custom-designed their own personal signal that generally flew from top of the ship's tallest mast. We invite you to proudly display the Maine Maritime Museum burgee wherever you may travel. Large is 16" x 24" and Small is 12" x 18".
