This stunning mahogany inboard runabout is model 202, the “Special Utility Boat.” Built in Newport News, Virginia., in 1934, and fitted with a 4-cylinder, 35hp Lycoming engine. Complete with a shatterproof windshield, automotive steering, nickel silver fittings, and upholstered seat backs and cushions, it was a sleek, elegant, and fast model for its time.
The hull is varnished Philippine Mahogany, with the newly designed (at the time) “Multiple-Vee double bottom”, which reduced side spray and increased strength and speed.
The wooden hull and framing are almost totally original, and the hull was refastened about 15 years ago.
The Lycoming engine (#3090) has been maintained and winterized annually. The exhaust piping was replaced in 2021 and has not been used since.
